Albania fills state treasury with penalties for smoking
Uncompromising struggle against tobacco smoking in public places has been launched in Albania in 2007 with the help and support of OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) and WHO (World Health Organization). But tradition of smoking always and everywhere doesn't hurry to leave Albanian's souls. People as before strive to smoke in public transport and dining places. For this pay infringers themselves and bus, bar and coffee shops owners.
Only for the last month in Albanian capital Tirana for infringing the smoking ban were penalized 122 Companies. These fines cannot be disputed in the court or revoked. Private and juridical persons that were noticed by Ministry of Health agents in smoking in wrong place could be fined in amount of 50 thousands lek (410 euro).
In Albania live 3 million people, 872 thousands of them smoke. Experts say that approximately 15 % of teenagers in age of 13-15 are familiar with tobacco and tobacco smoke. For cigarettes and other tobacco products Albanians annually spent more than 300 million euro.
