Some cigarettes cause stronger dependence?
For the last 50 years American Society has made a long way for getting rid of nicotine dependence, however it is far till the final problem solution. According to common research of Massachusetts state Public Health department and Medical School of Massachusetts University, American manufacturers of cigarettes have increased nicotine concentration in cigarettes smoke, probably, in order to increase dependence of their product, informs The Boston Globe Deborah Kotz.
Team of researchers has studied data provided to government by four biggest cigarette manufacturers from 1997 to 2012. It appeared that nicotine quantity consumed by smokers during smoking one cigarette has increased from 1.65 mg in 1999 to record 1.89 mg in 2011. Increase of 15 % can be caused by change of cigarette construction (filter, length) considers head of research group Thomas Land. As result is increased probability of dependence appearance only after several smoked cigarettes.
Daily 3800 of American teenagers smoke their first cigarette, 1000 of them will become smokers.
Besides, 3 of 4 cigarette Companies - R.J. Reynolds, B&W and Philip Morris have produced in 2012 cigarettes with higher nicotine content than in 2005. R.J. Reynolds and Philip Morris representatives have refused to comment research results. Earlier both Companies have justified increase of nicotine content with change of natural properties of tobacco that is used in manufacturing process.
In this case increase of nicotine content would be observed among all manufacturers as all of them buy tobacco approximately from the same region, however, it doesn't take place, Land has refuted arguments of tobacco corporations.
