Tobacco cutting methods. Part 1

On tobacco cutting method depends not only its appearance but also how comfortable will be pipe filling, how well tobacco will burn, i.e., as result, cutting type influences blendís flavor. Below we will tell you about main methods of tobacco cutting.

Flakes

This type of cutting represents thin pressed plates. Directly Flakes is general name for such types of tobacco as it generalizes different traditions of plate tobacco manufacturing.

The most widespread names are - Flake cut, Navy cut, Sliced cut, Cut cakes. One of the names - Navy cut came from English navy where seamen took in navigation big plates of pressed tobacco and cut them in plates directly before smoking.

Such names as как Sliced cut and Curve cut came from America.

For plate tobaccos manufacturing, tobacco mixture is pressed under high pressure in hard plates. Then plates are stacked where tobacco is heated, fermented in order to reduce its strength and get much softer flavor.

After storage and fermentation tiles are cut in thin plates.

After pressing tobacco burns much slowly, due to this smoke during smoking becomes colder but flavor fuller and milder.

This entire process with pressing, heating and fermenting accentuates taste nuances of tobaccos that enter in the blend, but each plate is full-fledged part of ready tobacco blend.

Smoking of such tobaccos supposes some skill as in this case to fill pipe and smoke it is some more difficult than when using flaky tobaccos.

Cut plug

Cut tobacco also comprises a lot of different names joined with one manufacturing process. These are such names as Ready rubbed, Loose flake, Rubbed out.

Basically, Cut plug, is plate tobacco that was grinded in such a way that it has transformed in blend of small, usually quite rough flakes. To smoke and fill the pipe with such grinded tobacco, of course, is easier than tobaccos of Flake cut.
